Project

ARK Atwood Academy

Bouygues UK/Westminster City Council

This project required Lichfields to tackle a number of challenges given the presence of non-designated heritage assets, the amenity of neighbouring properties, adjacency to the Grand Union canal and affordable housing provision. However, Lichfields’ expertise in planning and a strong commitment to heritage matters enabled us to secure planning permission for a mixed use redevelopment of the site to provide a new ARK primary academy, adult education facility and nearly 50 private residential units.

Lichfields worked closely with the client, key consultees and the Council to respond to concerns regarding the scheme and achieve a design solution which could be fully justified in planning terms; we successfully negotiated a lower level of family-sized residential units and no on-site affordable housing due to the viability of the project.

This was an interesting central London project which required us to work closely with the client and the architects to achieve a successful scheme. This education-led mixed use scheme is a great example of how a two form entry primary school can be delivered and funded on a constrained site in Westminster.
