Lichfields is pleased to publish the third edition of Start to Finish, its award-winning research into the rate of delivery of residential developments in England and Wales. It considers what has happened on the ground in respect of 297 sites delivering a combined 387,000 dwellings, including 179 sites each yielding 500 dwellings or more. It also considers – for the first time – a review of brownfield urban apartment schemes and an analysis of the impact of economic and housing market cycles on housing delivery.
This third edition of Start to Finish is published at a pivotal moment – a time when the housing crisis shows no sign of abating and, in the run-up to a general election, when housing issues are high on the political agenda. By updating and extending the sample of sites that has informed our analysis, the latest edition will ensure that Start to Finish can continue to provide a robust evidence-base for planning decisions, local plans and public policy debates.
In the current climate, the housing market faces fresh challenges and the urgency for housing delivery is undisputed. The findings in the third edition of Start to Finish capture the nuanced realities of strategic housing delivery, presenting significant, on the ground evidence crucial to inform realistic plan making and development management outcomes.
