Leeds General Infirmary Building the Leeds Way

19 Dec 2019
Leeds City Council has approved plans for new a new £650 million ‘state of the art’  adults’ hospital with operating theatres and critical care facilities and a children’s hospital, together with a 650 space multi-storey car park within the heart of the Leeds Innovation District. The scheme is part of a major transformation of Leeds General Infirmary which will in due course will see the repurposing of existing hospital buildings, all of which will make a significant contribution to achieving the creation of a world class hub  for research, innovation and entrepreneurialism in priority sectors that delivers transformational economic growth for Leeds and the City Region.
The decision follows on from the recent award of HIP1 funding from the Government for the scheme. Within a focused team, Lichfields provided comprehensive strategic town planning  and heritage advice to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for the outline planning submission which forms part of the wider ‘Building the Leeds Way’ initiative.

We are delighted to have contributed to the application for the world-class healthcare facilities. The Council’s decision has enabled the future delivery of healthcare infrastructure, which will have huge social and economic benefits for Leeds and the City region. The development will act as a catalyst for future development within the City’s Innovation District in the city centre.
