Plans to expand Sky Studios Elstree approved

24 Sept 2025
Lichfields is delighted that plans to expand Sky Studios Elstree, Sky’s state-of-the-art film and TV production campus, have been approved by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The expansion will deliver a further 10 stages at the impressive Borehamwood complex, creating more than 2,000 new jobs and attracting around £2 billion of production investment to the UK within the first five years of operation.

Lichfields has advised Legal & General Investment Management and Sky Studios Limited on the development of Sky Studios Elstree for over six years, securing planning permission for the existing studios in 2020. The new expansion proposals were brought forward to build on the studio’s success and to continue to cement its position as one of Europe’s leading production hubs.

We are delighted to have helped secure permission for the expansion of Sky Studios Elstree. The UK’s film and TV sector is world-leading, and this project will drive growth by creating thousands of jobs and attracting significant inward investment. The scale of need and the benefits are substantial, and it is excellent to see these fully recognised by the Inspector and the Secretary of State.
