Blackpool Tower

Lancashire
Merlin Entertainments Group and Blackpool Council

Blackpool Tower is an iconic British landmark and the last surviving steel observation tower. Built in 1894 it was designed by architects Maxwell and Tuke to imitate the Eiffel Tower, it is now Grade I listed. Lichfields prepared a Conservation Management Plan for the Tower to assess its architectural and historic significance and to guide recent and future restoration and enhancement works.
We also achieved planning permission and listed building consent for the ‘Dungeon’ and the ‘Tower Top Experience’ attractions, where we successfully demonstrated the public benefits to be delivered by these attractions and their acceptability in heritage terms. These attractions have increased the visitor experience and numbers to the Tower, ensuring this fantastic heritage asset remains an ever popular tourist attraction.
Lichfields did a fantastic job in pulling together a complex set of planning and heritage assessments at Blackpool Tower. We were delighted to obtain the necessary permissions in time to meet our challenging programme.
