Holmfirth Town Centre Access

Kirklees Council

Lichfields provided planning and heritage consultancy services for the delivery of a full planning permission with acceptable planning conditions. Lichfields worked closely with the Kirklees project lead, providing a town planning overview to all the scheme design and technical reporting prepared in support of the planning application. Lichfields led on pre-application discussion with Kirklees planning department and key consultees. Lichfields provided strategic advice throughout and presented in support of the planning application to planning committee, contributing also to the agreement of planning conditions prior to the issuing of the planning decision notice.
The Huddersfield Road Car Park forms part of a wider programme of works as part of the £3.9 million Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan. The scheme will see the redundant market hall demolished, and the existing car park subsequently extended and redeveloped to provide a new split-level car park comprising of 26 car parking spaces including 2 disabled parking spaces and 3 electric vehicle parking spaces. The car park can be used for pop up market uses and an event space.
Lichfields prepared a comprehensive planning application within a short timeframe. Lichfields have been integrally involved with the design process, liaising closely with Council’s design team for the submission and have provided strategic advice every step of the way. Lichfields produced a well received Design and Access Statement and engaged with local authority specialists in liaison with statutory consultees to ensure timely determination. The in- house heritage team were able to provide necessary advice when required.

We’re delighted at the progress we have made on the new car park arrangements for Holmfirth town centre. This will see significant improvement in safe pedestrian accessibility between Huddersfield Road and Hollowgate, provision of new public realm for events as part of other improvements within the town. We are hoping construction of the new facility can begin early next year. Lichfields were second to none in providing planning support at each stage. They were able to apply their experience in guiding the application to a successful planning determination.
