Lambeth College, Nine Elms Campus

South Bank Colleges

Lichfields has advised the college for many years on rationalising all three of its London Campuses (Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall). The Vauxhall Campus had become run down and no longer fit for teaching purposes, with teaching provision at the site being relocated to the College’s other campuses. Lichfields were instructed to assist the College with replacing the site’s existing poor quality floorspace.
The first phase of the redevelopment relates to the Nine Elms STEAM Centre (NESC), which represents a significant investment of £45m in London’s Further Education infrastructure. Lichfields advised and managed the planning process on the submission of a hybrid application for the demolition of existing buildings and the erection of a mixed-use development comprising a detailed planning application for a new college facility (referred to as Block A) with associated parking, servicing, new public realm, hard and soft landscaping and other associated works and an outline planning application for up to 15,000sqm of College floorspace, up to 272 student accommodation units and up to 4,570sqm of shared workspace with associated parking, servicing and other works.
We continue to advise SBC, having recently secured planning permission for reserved matters in relation to Block B of the outline permission – a 10 storey gateway building at the front of the site, providing c. 6,900 sqm of education floorspace.
Lichfields has assisted South Bank Colleges for many years, delivering a number of buildings across our South London campuses. Their trusted and valuable planning advice has enabled us to rationalise and repurpose our assets and deliver first rate further education facilities for our students.
