Project
London Dock Secondary School
London Borough of Tower Hamlets
The London Dock Secondary School is located within a prominent plot in the London Dock Masterplan site, home to the former News International print works. The secondary school will play an important role in the development of the urban and community fabric of this part of Tower Hamlets.
The site is constrained and so to ensure the highest quality of design, teaching and play space could be achieved, the approved parameter plans were required to be varied. Lichfields submitted a Minor Material Amendment (MMA) to the parent permission to vary the parameter plans in terms of height, massing and entrance points. This MMA included a Supplementary Environmental Statement covering a wide range of Chapters which Lichfields coordinated. We also secured Reserved Matters Approval for the detailed design of the school.
Due to the time constraints associated with securing DfE funding, Lichfields collaborated on developing a strategy to secure amendments to the Outline parameters while also securing Reserved Matters approval and discharging a number of pre-commencement conditions simultaneously. This allowed the funding to be unlocked.
Lichfields is delighted to have been involved in the development of Mulberry Academy London Dock - a flagship Passivhaus secondary school providing a state-of-the-art learning environment for future students. Our collaborative approach, working with LB Tower Hamlets and the wider project team, ensured works could start on site in time to trigger the necessary DfE funding, meaning the school was complete for the start of the 2024/2025 academic year.
