The Co-operative Group HQ

The Co-operative Group

When the landmark Co-op HQ building in Manchester was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen, it was declared one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in Europe as well as a catalyst for the redevelopment of a historically important area to the north of Manchester City Centre.
Requiring a wealth of assessments to successfully assimilate the development into its new home, Lichfields co-ordinated the preparation of a robust Environmental Statement as well as completing detailed assessments into the effect of the building on local historic assets, views and the Manchester skyline, the local economy and its relationship to other new development in the surrounding area. Working for The Co-operative Group, Lichfields’ comprehensive approach, which placed engagement with the key stakeholders at its heart, was key in ensuring the prompt approval of the planning application.

The timescales for submission were tight but the need for efficiency didn’t compromise the robustness of the environmental sustainability documents.  We delivered on all counts and were delighted to have played a key role in the delivery of this landmark, highly sustainable building.
