In the event of seeing or smelling a fire
If you see or smell a fire, dial 999 immediately from a mobile phone and activate the fire alarm. Only use fire-fighting equipment if you have received training and feel confident to do so.
If you hear the fire alarm
Lichfields’ fire marshals (Rebecca Olding and/or Lucy Sime) will check the office is fully evacuated, including the meeting and store rooms in the 3rd floor office and both male and female toilets on the way downstairs. If a fire marshal is not present, please nominate one person to check the above rooms if safe to do so.
Please ensure you take your work iPhone with you. (It’s always important to keep your Outlook contacts up to date).
Exiting the building
Exit the office by following the fire exit signs. There are two fire exit routes on the 3rd floor – the primary stairwell by the staff entrance and the secondary stairwell next to the visitor entrance.
The primary stairwell exits into the main building office reception space, exit through the main doors as usual and gather at the muster point.
If you are unable to exit via the primary stairwell, use the secondary stairwell which exits onto Bond Street - turn right into Bond Court and gather at the muster point.
Muster point: The Boules Statue in Bond Court
When you arrive at the muster point, Lichfields fire wardens will check you off the evacuation list, however where there is no fire marshal present, nominate one person to take the roll call, they will check off names using the sign-in app (see instructions below). If any staff or visitors are missing, the fire marshal/nominated person may ask you to call them on their mobile phone to help locate them. Please be on hand to help.
The building’s fire alarm is linked to a monitoring station who confirms whether the emergency services should attend. If the fire brigade are not stood down within a certain period of time, they will automatically attend.
The fire marshal/nominated person must then report to the fire brigade or building management contact to advise whether everyone from Lichfields, including visitors, have been accounted for.
If the fire brigade or fire marshals are not present, please contact:
- During office hours – Wilton Developments (the building management agents) on 0113 386 3380 and ask them to attend site to assess the situation.
- Out of office hours - Rebecca Olding: 07710364006/07909554167 or the out of hours key holders, Gough & Kelly, on 0844 880 7100, who will attend site to check over and advise if the building is safe to reoccupy.
Only return to the building once you have been advised it is safe to do so by the Fire Marshal, the fire service/police or Wilton/Gough & Kelly as above.
