In the event of seeing or smelling a fire

If you see or smell a fire, dial 999 immediately and activate the fire alarm. Only use fire fighting equipment if you have received training and feel confident to do so.

If you hear the fire alarm

Fire marshals (wearing yellow hi viz jackets) will check the office is fully evacuated, including meeting rooms and both male and female toilets.

If there are no fire marshals present, please check the office is fully evacuated, including meeting rooms and both male and female toilets.

Please ensure you take your work iPhone with you. (It’s always important you keep your Outlook contacts up-to-date).

Close all fire doors behind you and do not take the lift.

Exiting the building

Exit via one of the three fire doors and don’t forget to follow the fire exit signs. When evacuating from the fire exit door by the café or the fire door opposite the stationery room, you will exit the building from the upper ground floor, and for the fire exit by the graphics print room and welfare room, it’ll be the lower ground floor.

Muster point

When you arrive at the muster point at All Hallows by the Tower (we only have the one muster point in and out of working hours), nominate one person to take the roll call, they will check off names by using the sign in app (see instructions below). Other staff must be on standby to help locate colleagues or visitors as names are called out; and where staff are missing, you may be asked to call them on their mobiles. (They may have forgotten to sign out for a meeting/ lunch etc.).

Between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday one person will need to go to the ECP (Emergency Coordination Point) to let The Minster Building Fire Warden know whether everyone has been accounted for or not. This will be the fire warden or fire deputies’ responsibility. In their absence, a fire marshal should attend, and in the absence of all of the above, whoever is nominated at the muster point. (See map for ECP below).

Out of hours – between 6pm and 8am and at weekends – and once you have completed the roll call, please call security on 07825622815 to advise whether everyone from Lichfields, including visitors, have been accounted for.

Only return to the building once you have been advised it is safe to do so by security, your fire warden, the fire service or police etc.
