In the event of seeing or smelling a fire

If you see or smell a fire, activate the fire alarm, and then call 999. Only use fire-fighting equipment if you have received training and feel confident to do so.

If you hear the fire alarm

Fire marshals (wearing yellow hi viz jackets) will check the office is fully evacuated, including meeting rooms and both male and female toilets.

If there are no fire marshals present, please check the office is fully evacuated, including meeting rooms and both male and female toilets

Please ensure you take your work iPhone with you. (It’s always important you keep your Outlook contacts up to date). Do not take the lift.

All fire doors should close automatically.

Exiting the building

Exit via one of the two fire doors within the office and follow the fire exit signs. When evacuating from the middle of the office fire exit door, you will come out by the side of St Nicholas Building and onto St Nicholas Street.

Muster point: Queen Victoria Monument, outside St Nicholas Cathedral, using pedestrian lights to cross the road. (See map below)

When you arrive at the muster point, Lichfields fire wardens will check you off the evacuation list, however, if there are no fire wardens available, nominate one person to take the roll call, they will check off names by using the sign in app (see instructions below). Other staff must be on standby to help locate colleagues or visitors as names are called out; and where staff are missing, you may be asked to call them on their mobiles. (They may have forgotten to sign out for a meeting/ lunch etc.).

Between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday one person will need to go to the ECP (Emergency Coordination Point) to let St Nicholas Building Fire Warden / Building Manager know whether everyone has been accounted for or not. This will be the fire warden or fire deputies’ responsibility. Should any Lichfields Fire Warden not be available then the person that took the roll call should proceed to the ECP.

Out of hours – If you see or smell a fire, activate the fire alarm at the nearest point and leave the building immediately, if there are no fire wardens present, please check the office is fully evacuated. The building monitoring station (manned 24 hours, 7 days a week) will then call the fire brigade. The building security staff will then secure the building after the emergency services are finished.

Only return to the building once you have been advised it is safe to do so by security, your fire warden, the fire service or police etc.
