York House awakened

31 Aug 2017
The Office Group’s (TOG) plans for York House on Pentonville Way have been unanimously approved by Islington’s Planning Committee, with Members commending the design approach and the benefits the development will bring to the local area.

TOG will operate York House as an employment hub, providing a range of office spaces and shared workspace suited to micro, small and growing businesses to encourage productive, flexible and collaborative working.

The existing 1980s building has a poor relationship with the street, fronting a concrete yard with a lack of glazing and a forbidding presence. dMFK’s innovative design to bring the building back to life includes the creation of a perforate and animated front extension to Pentonville Road and a textured extension at roof level, providing additional office space.

Lichfields provided planning, heritage and townscape services, advising TOG on the detailed design evolution followed by the planning application process, including the preparation of the Planning and Consultation Statement, Health Impact Assessment Screening, Heritage Impact Assessment and Townscape and Visual Impact Assessment.

This development will bring significant qualitative and quantitative employment enhancements in this important ‘Central Activities Zone’ location, supporting modern businesses within a building of high architectural quality which will animate and enhance the character of the local area.
