Conington Road, Lewisham Town Centre

Lichfields helped Meyer Homes to secure full planning permission, following recovery of the planning appeal by the Secretary of State, for the redevelopment of the former Tesco Car Parks Site in Lewisham Town Centre.
The Conington Road scheme will deliver 365 new homes (20% affordable) alongside workspace and commercial units within three new buildings, including the tallest building within Lewisham Town Centre at 34 storeys topped by a ‘Skydeck’ - a free to use and publicly accessible rooftop viewing gallery.
The Secretary of State agreed with the Inspector’s recommendation to allow the appeal, notably affording “very considerable weight to the provision of market and affordable housing” and “moderate weight to the positive contribution and appearance of the emerging Lewisham Town Centre”.
Lichfields has been involved from the project’s inception, managing the scheme through the pre-application and application stages. Both the original and revised applications received recommendations for approval by Lewisham’s Planning Officers, the Council ultimately supporting the latter only for the Mayor of London to direct refusal on affordable housing and viability grounds.
We were responsible for managing and coordinating the associated planning appeal and provided expert planning witness evidence at the public inquiry.
Lichfields continues to work with Meyer Homes on the implementation of this transformational place making development.
