Bisham Abbey

It is difficult to envisage a more policy-constrained site than Bisham Abbey, with seven ‘levels’ of policy allocation, including Green Belt and Scheduled Ancient Monument. Despite this challenging context, Lichfields has enabled the transformation of this important heritage site to accommodate Sport England’s elite English Institute of Sport. This organisation provides sports science and medical support to the Country’s top athletes, and at Bisham Abbey this led to the requirement for the provision of a suite of new facilities, including new hockey and 3G pitches, tennis courts, a new sports pavilion building with state-of-the-art gym facilities, and, a new on-site accommodation building.
Seeing the success of Team GB at the Rio Olympics and knowing that many of our gold medallists are reliant on the world-class facilities at Bisham gives this project added distinction. Delivering the necessary development with full respect for such an important heritage setting only adds to our sense of achievement on this exciting project.
