Lambton Estate, County Durham
The Trustees of Lord Durham’s 1989 Voluntary Settlement

Lambton Estate is one of the County’s ‘hidden gems.’ Located in the Green Belt and containing 23 listed buildings including a Grade I listed building, the project presented a number of challenges. Our key challenge was to demonstrate ‘very special circumstances’ for developing in the Green Belt. Working alongside the Trustees, Lichfields also developed an access plan to create around 12 kilometres of walking and cycling routes to open up the Estate which is currently very private. Lichfields successfully secured permission for approximately 400 executive, family and affordable homes and 8,000 square metres of offices with local shops and community hubs. Alongside the scheme sits a plan of action which guarantees the funding of more than 50 projects to restore and enhance the historical buildings and structures to secure the Estate’s long term future.

We are delighted to have assisted in securing the future of this important asset. The development will ensure the Estate can be enjoyed by many for years to come and new executive homes will secure investment into the county.
