On behalf of the Old Town Farm Partnership, Lichfields secured planning permission and listed building consent for internal and external alterations to two existing dwellings and the conversion of two agricultural barns to residential use at Old Town Barns, Otterburn, Northumberland.
The site contains three Grade II listed buildings including the Old Town Farmhouse, the cart shed and bothy and the garden walls, while the two barns on site were curtilage listed.
Lichfields led the Planning Project Management on the project and worked closely with Council officers during pre-application discussions to define the heritage implications of the project. Lichfields subsequently prepared and submitted the planning and listed building consent applications, including the Planning Statement, Statement of Significance and Heritage Impact Assessment.
The constructive and collaborative approach allowed our heritage team and the council to establish design changes and mitigation measures that would be required to reduce the impact of the scheme on the significance of the heritage assets on site, whilst delivering a successful outcome for the client.
Full Planning and Listed Building Consent applications were submitted in early-2023 with planning permission and listed building consent granted in June 2023.
