15/16 Park Row, Leeds
The University of Law
The University of Law opened the doors of its Yorkshire training centre in September 2014, welcoming 400 students and almost 50 staff to a new location in the heart of Leeds’ business district. £1.25m was invested to transform a former Grade A office building on Park Row into a new teaching centre designed to replicate the corporate setting of a professional law firm, and to maximise links with the City’s 200 major law firms, a cluster second only in size to London in the UK. Following initial due diligence advice on a number of prospective properties, Lichfields handled the change of use planning application to secure use of the B1a office for education, including the creation of lecture theatres, workshops, a library, café, study areas and a panoramic roof terrace, working closely with the Council to secure planning permission in time for the centre’s launch in September 2014.
We were delighted to secure planning permission for the University of Law’s ambitious plans to bring their teaching facilities closer to the significant number of law firms operating within Leeds City Centre, and to assist the Council in supporting change of use of Grade A office floorspace to realise the University’s aspiration of replicating the corporate setting of a professional law firm for the benefit of both students and staff.
