Wembley Stadium

Project

Wembley Stadium

The FA Group

A landmark project for Lichfields has resulted in one of the world’s most recognisable stadiums. Our initial work – for Sport England – involved assessing five bids for the new English National Stadium. Lichfields subsequently formed part of an international team of consultants, including architects World Stadium Team (Foster + Partners and Populous – previously HOK Sport) and led the successful planning application process. This included securing listed building consent to demolish the old Wembley Stadium: English Heritage (now Historic England) commended our thorough analysis.
The application documentation included an Economic Regeneration Statement explaining how the stadium would be a catalyst for the Wembley area: events over the past decade have borne out our analysis. Given the application’s complexity we produced a ‘Planning Summary’, an easy to read and well-illustrated explanation of the project. This was an innovative approach, at that time. We continue to advise The Football Association about Wembley Stadium.

To work on the new national stadium at Wembley – one of the world’s best known sporting venues-was a privilege for us. We realised that this opportunity rarely arises and are proud to have contributed to the creation of such a superb stadium that has had such a positive input, regenerating the area.
