Economic Footprint of UK House Building

Home Builders Federation

Home Builders Federation asked us to evaluate the economic footprint of the UK house building industry. We undertook an in-depth analysis of primary and secondary data, and surveyed some of the UK’s largest house builders. We also made full use of the latest economic appraisal techniques and benchmarks.
Our assessment offered a new kind of analysis by exploring a comprehensive range of economic, social and environmental benefits generated by current levels of housing delivery in depth. We also considered the potentially significant economic yield that the industry could generate if it were to meet its delivery target and boost housing supply by 100,000 units per year.

This study was the first of its kind to calculate the UK house building industry’s economic footprint in a truly holistic way and it has become a point of reference for the industry, stakeholders and politicians. We were very impressed with the quality of research, depth of analysis and Lichfields’ understanding of the issues. Their final report was user-friendly and made use of visual tools such as infographics to convey complex information in a visually appealing and digestible way.
