Hungate Urban Neighbourhood

Hungate (York) Regeneration Limited, a joint venture between Lendlease and Evans Property Group

Hungate is a key development site within the City Walls adjacent to the York Central Historic Core Conservation Area and multiple listed buildings. Lichfields’ delivered a hybrid permission for the revised masterplan including the remaining Blocks D, F, G and H to amend the mix and quantum of development. Lichfields also secured subsequent full and Section 73 permissions to enable design changes to various blocks, including the first Build to Rent scheme in York.
Lichfields provided strategic planning and heritage advice, coordinated the project teams and public consultation and led preparation of the planning applications and EIAs. Lichfields also completed a series of Townscape Visual Impact Assessments which successfully demonstrated that the scheme would not have any unacceptable impacts upon key views.
Lichfields worked closely with the City Council to develop a high-quality design for this key regeneration site, as well as to negotiate Section 106 agreements and Deeds of Variation. Our pro-active approach to engagement and consultation was central in gaining the support of statutory consultees, stakeholders and the local community. Approval of the revised masterplan and subsequent planning applications has facilitated the delivery of Hungate as a brand-new quarter within the City Centre, creating a landmark riverside development.

Lichfields provided strategic planning advice alongside heritage and EIA expertise, working effectively within project teams and with officers at York Council to deliver multiple successful planning applications in order to amend the proposals and add value to the development. Lichfields provided clear and effective advice on challenging issues and are professional and enjoyable to work with.
