London Eye

Merlin Attractions Group

The London Eye is a well-established part of London’s skyline, with Lichfields’ work obtaining planning permission and listed building consent for the retention of The London Eye on the South Bank of the River Thames. Our role involved the co-ordination of an Environmental Statement which examined the visual and heritage impacts of the attraction and identified the positive socio-economic and community impacts. Our ongoing work has secured various advertisement consents to ensure that the London Eye signage aligns with its sponsors – including EDF Energy, Coca Cola and lastmuinute.com. Recent work also includes a comprehensive review of the London Eye impacts, triggered after 20 years of the 2003 planning permission being issued. Lambeth Council agreed with Lichfields’ assessment that the London Eye can be permanently secured beyond 2028 without further mitigation measures.
Speaking following the planning committee decision allowing the retention of the London Eye, Merlin’s Chief Executive Officer, Scott O’Neil, said:

A landmark decision for a landmark attraction. The London Eye is both the centrepiece of Merlin’s central London offering and visitors’ itineraries, drawing millions to the South Bank each year to enjoy unrivalled views of the capital.
