Long Marston Airfield New Settlement

Project

Long Marston Airfield New Settlement

CALA Homes (Midlands) Ltd

We successfully secured an allocation in the adopted Stratford-on-Avon Local Plan for a brand new community of 3,500 homes on this former airfield. Lichfields provided masterplanning, economics, viability and planning advice to CALA.
When we joined the project in January 2014, Long Marston Airfield was not the Council’s preferred choice. Our strategy challenged the housing target and Sustainability Appraisal underpinning the emerging Core Strategy, and demonstrated the benefits of an additional new settlement in the District. Appearing at the Examination in Public on behalf of CALA, Lichfields secured an Inspector’s conclusion that the Plan required modification, and the airfield proposal was accepted by the Council and duly endorsed as sound by the Inspector in June 2016.
Supporting the case for allocation, we prepared a comprehensive feasibility assessment, showing how the new community could be viably delivered, and also gave evidence at the examination of the Council’s proposed Community Infrastructure Levy.

At CALA we consider that this success was due in a large part to the diligence and expertise of Lichfields; not only the thorough and credible evidence presented to the Examination, but also in the breadth and depth of the supporting evidence produced by them in support of the new settlement.  The team was capable of taking the initiative and being proactive.  Most importantly they are a great bunch of people to work with.
