North East of Leicester SUE

CEG

A major urban expansion project demands multiple skills and careful coordination. Working closely with CEG, Lichfields managed the successful planning application for a residential led development (4,500 houses) on land straddling Charnwood and Leicester City. The scheme evolved over several years and the team at Lichfields, led by Nick Thompson, provided several inputs. Masterplanning, economic impact analysis, town planning, graphic design and managing the Environmental Statement - all requiring an understanding of a multitude of specialist inputs - were covered by Lichfields.
We recognised at the outset the importance of creating a ‘new place’, dealing with challenges of achieving good connectivity to the existing urban area and an appropriate transition to the nearby villages and open countryside. Many inputs to the design included formal design review. OPUN said the final masterplan addressed several issues and “…now forms a robust strategic framework for the SUE”.
Phase 1 “Melton Brook Village” and sitewide aspects are now the focus of Lichfields’ work.

Lichfields has been a key member of our project team, taking great care to help us develop a superb new place that will be well received by the new residents as well as benefitting the surrounding area. Some imaginative design solutions were identified to create a masterplan that was well received. The planning documentation and interaction with the local planning authority was, as is usual with Lichfields, of a very high standard.
