BP, M&S, McDonalds & Costa

On behalf of BP Oil UK Ltd, Lichfields has brought forward plans for a mixed use commercial development in Thirsk, including a new petrol filling station and variety of food and drink uses.

Through a bespoke consultation strategy, we were able to reveal the underlying support for the development within the local community and help to offset concerns about the location of the development on the edge of the town. In addition to a more traditional public exhibition, Lichfields created a web-based consultation platform which was then publicised both within the press and directly to key local stakeholders via social media.

Our web-based approach allowed us to engage with a much broader cross-section of the local community, including with younger people who are generally less inclined to attend consultation events - and this enabled us to demonstrate widespread community support for the scheme.

Lichfields played a pivotal role in BP’s wider programme of community engagement. They totally understood the sensitivities of our proposal and offered pragmatic solutions to promote the specifics of our scheme.

Lichfields designed and built a website which both met the planning requirements and raised the profile of our scheme significantly with the local community.
