Callerton

Project

Callerton

Bellway Homes (North East) Ltd; CEG; The Northumberland Estates; Taylor Wimpey; and O’Neill & Wright

When Newcastle City Council allocated land to the west of the City for 3,000 new homes, we were asked to secure planning permission for our client. Working closely with the Council from 2011, we presented an urgent case for new housing, as well as demonstrating that the land was both suitable and sustainable. We also proved why the site no longer merited its Green Belt classification.
Developing a masterplan, we set out how we would coordinate the development to deliver the facilities and the infrastructure needed, at exactly the right time. To date, we’ve submitted Environmental Impact Assessments for 1,150 of the new homes, alongside two planning applications. These include innovative designs for a school, public space, sports and leisure facilities and a new range of amenities. We also coordinated the technical side of things, advising on heritage issues and consulting the local community as we developed our scheme.

Callerton will meet the housing aspirations of people now and for future generations, enabling the continued economic growth of Newcastle. It will provide a first class ‘residential offer’, and has been led by Lichfields, a first class planning consultancy.
