Project
Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital
Cramlington
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Through the use of geographic information systems, our first task was to create a model to determine the best location for the Trust's new specialist emergency care hospital. The hospital provides “24/7” emergency healthcare for 500,000 residents spread across a 500,000 hectare area, and the chosen site needed to be in the most equitable location. Lichfields worked closely with the design team throughout the design process of this landmark hospital.
As the scheme developed, we consulted with local residents, parish councils and community groups to explain the proposal and address concerns about changes to healthcare provision.
We prepared the planning application for the project, including the Environmental Impact Assessment and the Design and Access Statement, to deliver this revolutionary development.
Our plans persuaded the Council’s committee, and planning permission was granted eight months after the application was submitted. Lichfields were retained as planning advisors throughout the construction and delivery phase.
