Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Cramlington
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Lichfields obtained planning permission in 2011 for the development of a new specialist emergency care hospital in Cramlington. From the outset, using geographic information systems, we created a model to determine the best location for the Trust's new hospital. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency healthcare for 500,000 residents spread across a 500,000 hectare area, and the chosen site needed to be in the most equitable location.
Lichfields has since contributed to a range of new schemes and projects linked to the masterplanning of the Trust’s wider Cramlington estate. This has included a new health and education hub, in partnership with Assura plc in 2021, and various other extensions and improvements to the site's amenity. Much of this input has related to the development of effective development management strategies to meet the Trust’s delivery timescales, whilst also carrying out effective public consultation and engagement with the local planning authority.

Lichfields has led the process from the outset and the Trust has been impressed by their professional approach.
